Songkran – das thailändische Neujahrsfest

Die bekanntesten Songkran-Feierlichkeiten Thailands finden im Norden in Chiang Mai statt. In diesem Jahr konzentriert sich das Chiang Mai Songkran Festival 2019 vom 1.-16. April auf „die Geschichte der Lanna-Kultur, während man das verheißungsvolle Neue Jahr in Sicherheit und ohne Alkohol feiert “, so die offizielle Verlautbarung.

In Chiang Mai wird Songkran oft als Paweni Pi Mai Muang bezeichnet. Eine wunderbare Balance aus Wasser-Spaß und heiligen Zeremonien, die die hohe religiöse Bedeutung diese Festes für Lanna-Kultur zeigt. Zu den Höhepunkten zählen die Prozession von Chiang Mais prominentem Phra Buddha Sihing-Bild sowie das Baden des Bildes, eine Parade, bei der Sand und Sali (der Bodhi-Baum) zu Tempeln gebracht werden sowie kulturelle Veranstaltungen und Vorführungen überall in der Stadt.
